The Metaverse, as a virtual space that is created and maintained by software, offers a vast array of possibilities for users. Similar to the Internet, which has had a significant impact on society and the way we communicate and access information, the Metaverse has the potential to revolutionize various aspects of our lives and change the world in numerous ways.

What Changes Can the Metaverse Bring?

There are many potential revolutions that the Metaverse can bring to the world once it becomes fully adapted. Below are some of those transformations that the new technology could bring into reality in the near future.

A New Way of Welcoming Employees Into the Company

Methods currently available to human resource specialists impose numerous limitations on their creativity in the employee onboarding process. Despite paperless methods being widely available, most companies worldwide still rely on boring seminars and eye-straining documents to introduce new team members to the workplace.

Technologies being developed right now by Indian firm NextMeet could give HR personnel the means to create compelling, immersive, and informative worker intake flows. Presentations can now be made via an interactive virtual gallery that new employees can explore at their own pace.

Potentially, this approach can remove the boredom that employees experience 10 minutes into onboarding using PDF documents covering the company’s profile.

A New Definition of the Term “Staycation”

Staycation is a portmanteau of the words “stay” and “vacation.” As the combination implies, it means organizing a vacation that doesn’t require the participants to leave their home or their chosen accommodation. There are various ways to experience a staycation; people can spend their idle days binging on Netflix or their favorite foods.

However, with virtual technology, the concept can be expanded. Aside from watching movies for the duration of the holiday, people can use the Metaverse to experience three-dimensional tours of numerous destinations worldwide. In other words, they can fly over to Rome to visit the ruins of Pompeii without leaving their home or city!

This capability could also give travelers the opportunity to peek into potential accommodations near their destinations before committing to a booking.  

A More Interactive E-Commerce Experience

E-commerce and online shopping have introduced unparalleled convenience and flexibility to consumers. However, brick-and-mortar shops retain the advantage of enabling buyers to try out their items before making purchases, a feature that online shopping critically lacks. The Metaverse will, in theory, bridge that vital gap.

Similar to open-world games like Second Life and Roblox, Metaverse users must create an avatar – a digital representation of themselves in the online space. This avatar will do everything that the consumer desires it to do while inside the virtual reality. These tasks include attending meetings, playing interactive games, and shopping by visiting digital shops that represent actual retailers.

Shopping using the Metaverse already has a few examples in place. Amazon, for instance, has already introduced Room Decorator. Room Decorator is an app that allows users to see how furniture and home décor on Amazon will look against any space they’re to be placed. The app uses augmented reality (AR) to superimpose the items against the bedroom or living room using the consumer’s phone.

A More Exciting Approach to Education

If one asks a student to describe school, they’ll use many words except exciting. The traditional education structure is too rigid and limited that many learners find the whole experience boring and restrictive. With virtual and augmented reality, teachers can create more immersive and exciting lessons and presentations for their students.

Similar to how this technology can potentially transform people’s travel experiences, the Metaverse lets teachers create digital field trips. They can now tour their students in historical sites worldwide in the comfort of their classrooms, for instance. This approach ensures the safety of the learners without sacrificing the quality and amount of learning they get from the tour.

This capability expands the learning horizons of both the educators and their charges. They will no longer be restrained by the logistics of creating the most compelling educational activities possible.

A Revolutionary Link between Fitness Trainers and Clients

The Internet has already brought people with fitness goals and training routines closer through videos on YouTube and various smartphone mobile apps. However, nothing on the World Wide Web can replace the personal experience of having a trainer personally teaching and advising athletes about their exercises.

The Metaverse is poised to change that. Users can access digital trainers through virtual technology. These are either avatars of real fitness trainers or artificial intelligence programmed to help end users with their fitness routines. These virtual coaches can benefit people who want to harness the expertise of these instructors but don’t want to visit a physical gym for many reasons.

The Metaverse offers many opportunities to transform the entire health and fitness experience. Aside from providing digital trainers, the virtual space also lets people collaborate with other like-minded individuals to come up with ways to gamify their routines. For instance, virtual technology will let boxers spar with other fighters without going to a gym.

These are only four possible applications of virtual reality and the Metaverse. There is still more than enough room for creativity, with the Metaverse currently in its infancy. All this means that we can still see more developments that could allow the technology to significantly change the world!
